I’m more on the humanist end of things and grew up working class, which probably informs my populism. I think the Democrats’ path back to power is through embracing leftist populism. We’ll see. FDR decided at the height of his power to keep pushing for change through the existing party structure and for many reasons we’ve never really had a labor-based party in the United States.

Flint is an important story in my main field (science policy) because it’s also an example of scientists corrupting their work for the state water agency; it took independent scientists like Dr. Mona to expose what they’d done.
