My argument is that America has had a white nationalist problem since its founding and that that constituency has found a new home in the Trump-led GOP. I didn’t address whether or not they share values with modern conservatism, but I did point out that modern conservatives are enacting white nationalist policies by making it harder for people of color to vote and restricting immigration based on national origin and religion. Debating whether or not the left is violent or who is more violent would be an example of the obscuring power of both-siderism, in my mind. I agree it’s surreal. I saw a book about the presidents at Costco last week and it had their pictures all lined up and it is still so freaking odd to see Trump there next to the guy he spread conspiracy theories about. Truly strange times to be involved in politics.

Democracy is pretty cool. We should try it some time. Voting rights, science policy, political communication and grassroots activism.
