Our politics is organized around the two parties in the U.S., so we sometimes wind up debating surface level finger point issues or process issues instead of fundamental outcomes of policy and basic rights and democracy. I think holding ourselves accountable for focusing on issues and what politics means for people’s everyday lives is fundamental to good progressive politics. It’s startling how much avg. news coverage of politics isn’t about policy or issues at all.
