Well, I never took the extreme position you’re laying out here. Morals and values inform which facts we think are the most important in a debate. They’re clearly both important, but factcheckers aren’t in the business of analyzing moral questions.
There’s a big difference in these examples because defense spending is largely funded by taxpayers. But with M4A, we’d be replacing health insurance premiums with Medicare payments. To the moral question, we rarely discuss what we’re already paying in increased healthcare costs and lower quality of life by NOT having universal, free coverage for everyone.
